Bury Council, working alongside Bury Voluntary, Community, and Faith Alliance (VCFA), has opened a new community funding pot to support and celebrate the amazing work that volunteers do across the borough.
Bury has a strong community, voluntary, and faith sector that provides many vital services for individuals across the borough, including some of our most vulnerable residents. However, from sports clubs to befriending services and food banks, these groups can only work and support residents thanks to the volunteers who give their valuable time and energy.
The LETs Value Volunteers Grants offer local groups and organisations the opportunity to apply for grants up to £250 to support and thank their volunteers. These grants can be used for celebration events, thank-you gifts, or simply ensuring volunteers are paid out-of-pocket expenses.
Helen Tomlinson (Chief Officer at Bury VCFA)
We are delighted to launch this fund with the support of Bury Council to provide a little festive cheer to volunteers and members of our community. We know that our voluntary groups value their volunteers and hope this funding will give them a festive boost to show that. Whether it’s helping volunteers with increased costs of living via volunteer expenses, organising a special thank you or end-of-year celebration, or simply a small treat for individuals who need a boost.
Councillor Sandra Walmsley, Cabinet Member for Communities and Inclusion said;
“My thanks and those of my fellow Cabinet members goes out to all our volunteers across the borough who do such sterling work in our communities. From running food banks to providing digital training courses, from sports and leisure activities to providing a warm space and a friendly face we have seen how much they do during the cost of living crisis and beyond. They often perform a thankless task but we want to assure them they are not forgotten and that their work is appreciated.”
The programme is open to groups borough-wide. Community groups, faith groups, charities, social enterprises, voluntary groups, clubs and societies can apply before the 30th October 2024 deadline.
