Bury Council, working alongside Bury Voluntary, Community, and Faith Alliance (VCFA), have opened a new funding programme to support local groups working to promote positive community safety, enhance community cohesion and tackle hate crime within the borough.
Standing Together funding has been secured for Bury-based voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector groups to deliver grassroots activities and projects that tackle community safety issues across the borough and raise awareness of hate crime and how to report it.
Three grant programmes have been launched today:
- Innovation Grants – Funding of up to £10,000 to support voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations to develop significant projects to support key outcomes of the Bury Community Safety Partnership, including diversionary activities for young people and projects to support individuals affected by domestic violence.
- Small Grants – Funding of up to £2,500 to support broader community safety but with a particular interest in projects and programmes that support and enhance community cohesion, bringing people together and enhancing residents’ feeling of safety and inclusion.
- Youth Led Grants – Funding of up to £1,000 for youth-led projects from local schools and youth organisations that meet the priorities of local young people, whether that is increasing feelings of safety, celebrating and raising awareness of different cultures and communities or raising awareness of hate crime.
Helen Tomlinson (Chief Officer at Bury VCFA)
We’re thrilled to launch this year’s Standing Together Community Grants. We know that local community groups and organisations do so much to support community safety and strengthen community cohesion across Bury. This funding will enable our groups to do so much more – ultimately create a safer, more inclusive spaces where everyone in the borough feels valued and protected.
Councillor Sandra Walmsley, cabinet member for communities at Bury Council, said:
“Bury is a wonderfully diverse and inclusive borough, and a place where everyone has the right to feel secure. We are delighted to play our part in fostering good relations and promoting a message of safety in all our communities.”
