Liz and Tom volunteered as stewards at the Bury Pride event
Liz and Tom live within Bury who both volunteered as stewards at the Bury Pride event. Assisting to run the parade and then act as a point of contact during the event for the public and acts.
They felt they connected with the community and provided help to a cause which is important to them. Alongside this they had fun!
“Having attended Bury pride in previous years with our friends, this year my husband and I were keen to support our friends and local community by volunteering at this year’s pride event. Through the VCFA, this process was really easy! At first we had no idea how to get involved, but luckily for us, the knowledgeable and friendly staff at the VCFA linked us up with the wonderful Bury Pride team who gave us an overview of what they were looking for from volunteers for the day and a clear timeline as to when we’d be needed.”
“We ended up volunteering as stewards throughout the whole day (who doesn’t love a high-vis?!), co-ordinating the parade through the town and generally supporting visitors and staff throughout the event later in the day. The atmosphere was so friendly and welcoming and the day as a whole was so much fun! The event and the team were extremely well organised which made everything much easier for us as first time volunteers. Hopefully we’ll be back again and even more involved next year.”
