A landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Bury’s Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector and public sector partners, marking a new era of collaboration aimed at improving outcomes for local communities.
The document sets out shared principles and commitments to work together more effectively, recognising the vital role of the voluntary sector in delivering services, tackling inequality, and enhancing the wellbeing of Bury’s residents.
The MoU was developed as the result of an extensive co-design process between Bury VCFA, local voluntary organisations, and public sector leaders. It localises the Government’s Civil Society Covenant. It aligns with the Greater Manchester VCSE Accord as well as the borough’s “Let’s Do It” strategy, ensuring that community voices are central to decision-making and service delivery.
Helen Tomlinson, Chief Officer of Bury VCFA, said:
“This MoU is a powerful statement of intent. It recognises the voluntary sector not just as a delivery partner, but as a key partner and co-creator of solutions to the challenges our communities face. By working together with openness, trust and shared purpose, we can build a fairer, more resilient Bury and genuinely improve the lives of local people.”
Lynne Ridsdale – Chief Executive of Bury Council and Bury’s Place-Based Lead for Health
“The formal signing of the MoU represents a significant milestone in our journey as Team Bury—embedding partnership working at the heart of local governance and service delivery. It reflects our shared commitment to building trust and making progress as equal partners, taking a “Bury first” approach that draws on the rich skills, experiences and assets within our locality, including the VCSE sector. We are laying the foundations for stronger collaboration and ensuring the best possible outcomes for local people and communities.”
