Julie contacted Bury VCFA to find out about volunteering
Julie initially volunteered to support the Covid Vaccination Centres in Bury. When these closed about twelve months ago, Julie joined Transport for Sick Children, an organisation that transports sick children to medical appointments across Greater Manchester.
Julie volunteers as a driver and finds the role very rewarding. Julie transports children to places such as Alder Hey and Leeds General Hospitals as well as the more local Manchester Children’s Hospital.
In addition, Julie also volunteers one day a week with Bury Hospice. Currently, Julie is helping to start a new group called ‘Open Connections there. The group is for anyone who wants to meet new people and engage in therapeutic activities.
Asked why Julie volunteers, the response was clear, ‘Doing voluntary work makes me feel like a valued member of my community.’
