The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and the Home Office have published the Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2025 (Cyber security breaches survey 2025 – GOV.UK). The survey provides an overview of cybersecurity and how breaches have impacted UK businesses and charities over the past year.
The survey reveals that 30% of charities experienced cybersecurity breaches or attacks in the past year, a 2% decrease from the previous year. Phishing – when criminals use scam texts, emails or phone calls to trick victims into downloading a virus or sharing their bank details – remains the most common type of breach, affecting 86% of charities, a 3% increase.
The National Centre for Cyber Security has a range of tools designed to help small businesses and VCSE organisations. This includes a range of resources and factsheets, free online training covering five key areas of prevention, including phishing, as well as a free online security test.
