As part of Bury VCFA’s work developing the Social Economy and supporting social enterprise around Bury, on 10th July we experimented with a ‘netwalking’ event – networking through a guided walk around Burrs Country Park.
The walk was led by local social enterprise, The Sunnywood Project, who deliver outdoor education and events for the local community. They are champions of the ‘netwalking’ concept, encouraging people to embrace the outdoors as a fun, healthy and effective way of sparking meaningful connection and conversation. Attendees were expertly guided by Lou from the Sunnywood team around Burrs Country Park; exploring its rich heritage and history, and getting everyone chatting along the way.
After the walk, attendees returned to Sunnywood’s base on the edge of the park to cool off in the shade, enjoy some refreshments and exchange contact details before going their separate ways.
Attendees included local social enterprises working in community sports, mental health support and speech and language therapy for people with learning disabilities.
Feedback for this event has been really positive:
“A different way of networking and making connections whilst learning about local history – great idea”
These networking events are aimed at local social enterprises, trading charities, co-operatives and anyone interested in setting one up. The next event in the series will take place at One Step Bury CIC on 11th September.
